The Future That Never Was

A creative writing workshop – part of the project Vi är inte Siffror

What happens to all the dreams when a life is cut short?

Behind every name and every number is a human being. Someone who loved, dreamed, had passions, relationships, and plans for the future.

But what happens to those dreams when a life ends too soon? In The Future That Never Was, a creative writing workshop that is part of IFMA’s project Vi är inte siffror, you are invited to explore the real stories of people whose lives were cut tragically short.

Through images and short personal stories, you will get to know the people behind the statistics – their interests, relationships, hopes, and dreams. You will then be invited to use your imagination and your own words to envision how their lives might have unfolded.

Perhaps you will write a letter, a diary entry, or a story about the future they never had the chance to experience.

You don’t need to be a writer or have any previous creative writing experience. What matters is your imagination, your thoughts, and your willingness to give space to another person’s story.

Together, we create a space for remembrance, reflection, and human dignity.

Your imagination can give a voice to a future that never had the chance to unfold
